Neon Lights

I once had a brief love affair
with a Sahara Swallowtail.
She kissed my nose
and flew to the sun.
It hurt to look at.

Violet skies; I wander wide
-eyed, teetering along sleeping streets,
holding hands with hollow love songs.
Violent highs; I wonder why
highways are so pitying as to
cradle us drunks ,
rushing to kiss the dirt.

That night, I tried to draw my face
to see if I could still remember.
But all I could find were
daisy chains squeaky swings,
broken syringes
black puddles and tired humming neon lights.
