Wafa Ghnaim was born near Boston, Massachusetts to a Palestinian family who had recently immigrated to the United States from Jordan. She was raised in Portland, Oregon, but began travelling frequently to Jordan and Syria as a young girl for personal, academic and professional pursuits.
Wafa is currently working at a Manhattan-based translation tech firm to pursue a long time dream of authoring a book with her mother, Feryal Abbasi-Ghnaim, about Palestinian embroidery motifs, meanings and folklore. With funding from the Clackamas County Arts Coalition, Regional Arts & Culture Council and the Brooklyn Arts Council, the book is set to be published in the fall of 2016. Its launch will coincide with a three-part reading series sharing motifs and stories from the book at the Ledding Library of Milwaukie (Milwaukie, Oregon) and at the Brooklyn Central Library (Brooklyn, New York).
Wafa and her husband currently reside in Brooklyn, New York.
