Mira is a 21 year-old Egyptian who has spent her life travelling between New Zealand and various parts of the Middle East before settling down in Auckland to complete a double-major in History and English at Massey University. She has a strong passion for history, constantly poring over historical texts, and debating historical issues. This often appears in her writing: A conflicted sense of lost cultural identity and history from which she has been displaced, yet can never fully let go. She enjoys reading fiction under tables during lectures and sketching in her spare time, with a strong preference for charcoal, ink and graphite. Writing, to her, is very much painting. A word is a shade, a colour, a line. One finds the 'right' ones, composes them, highlights here, contrasts there, shades nuances against stark bold lines. This forms universal meaning from universal experiences; expressions that transcend borders and pump lifeblood through the collective arteries of our society.
